Invasive pest alert: tuta absoluta is threatening world tomato production. 🚨 🍅🪱 This fast-moving critter has spread from Latin America to Europe, Africa and Asia. The U.S. could be next, says the Annual Review of Entomology. 💰 AKA the tomato leaf miner, it burrows into plants and gorges on their juice. In Africa alone, this pesky pest costs the continent $10+ billion a year. 🌍 Globalization is speeding up its spread. Climate change is helping it settle in. Together, they can create ideal conditions for this pest to thrive—putting local biodiversity and food security at risk. It has a “devastating effect on tomato production in both glasshouses and open fields” ~ Russell Slater, Syngenta. 💡 The challenge? Tuta absoluta is resistant to multiple insecticides, forcing growers to seek smarter, more sustainable solutions. It’s time to bug them back. 💪 #Agriculture #Innovation #Pests

Next-Gen Farming, Rooted in Tradition 🌱 Jeff Rowe is putting regenerative agriculture to the test on his family farm in Illinois. This year, the fifth-generation farmer and Syngenta Group CEO, is adding a powerful new variable: biologicals. Biologicals are inspired by, or directly derived from nature - like seaweed from Arctic fjords — that can help boost plant resilience, manage pests and diseases, and improve yield. This isn’t just innovation for innovation’s sake. It’s a real-world experiment with a real-world impact — on the future of agriculture and global food security. Follow along as we share updates from this living lab throughout the year. Want the full cinema experience?
